As a long-time SF resident, I would say that the Essentials & Entertainment numbers are extremely low. While you may be able to choose milk (is that the for a gallon?) for $2.39, a $4.00 * and eat out for $35, you would definitely be seeking “budget” options to develop so. I earn these sorts of “real cost” summaries frustrating– They seem to outline the cost for surviving, not living comfortably. According to the Economic Policy Institute, a family of four can live modestly, but comfortably, in San Francisco for $84,133 (

@asdf3001: Be certain to differentiate between regular LCDs and glass-covered LCDs. The latter, as found on most smartphones including the iPhone, is a bit different… glass + oleophobic coating can be cleaned with a lot more than a regular unprotected LCD.

While I am impressed at the ingenuity of using the shade, it is pure tragedy in that fabulous space. Those blinds instantly ruined the ambiance with their cheap, dusty, plastic awfulness. May I suggest using anything but plastic? Perhaps even bamboo or canvas roll-up type that can be had unbiased as cheaply had as the plastic ones?

We believe 2 dogs and a cat so anything that we grasp in “new” condition goes to “used” condition anyway, so no point in spending double to engage only to it eye musty in 6 months.

I had that proper experience. We had a basic, generic wooden set. It made a figure 8 and had 3 cars plus the engine. My 2yo son had reached a milestone where he could assemble the tracks himself and gallop the along it. I suggested to my parents that perhaps a birthday gift would be a less basic mutter engine/car or track accessory. They bought a 150-piece residence at Costco instead. I realize they were looking at overall value and probably only spent about 2x-3x the cost of a couple of Brio or Thomas pieces — but my son was overwhelmed. He basically never looked at the wooden trains again.

affection the concept, cherish the magazine!! As one who has begun to embrace the online magazine format (yet quiet misses Domino terribly!), I bear that this is an conception whose time has come. Sustainability should be expected, and build should not be sacrificed in the process. By giving constistent and exposure to green choices, Standard is allowing us to imagine a world in which green is not one of the options, but the only option. How would that be??
